The Ornithologist

Here's Pero on a quick excursion along the shed roof. She was up there sunbathing yesterday. Also keeping an eye on the local birds; until now she's not shown so much interest in them but this year she seems to have suddenly worked out what the usual relationshiip between cats and birds might be.

I've been doing some reading on 'consciousness' recently where the author divides our minds into the 'discursive' - where we 'think aloud' to ourselves - the 'practical' where we just do things - scratch, cough or shield our eyes from the sun - and the 'subconsious'. But where do cats 'live' I wonder? They may not have language but they clearly think about stuff, often carefully.

Last night we had a little girl sleeping over and it didn't take a psychologist to see that Pero was just as jealous as any child in the house might be. Everything around her said "these are my people and I'm the Queen here!"

OK Pero, give us a break.
